So, I went out of town this past weekend, which is why I was a particularly awful friend. I got to go home and see my mom and my grandma and my friends and, most importantly, my dog. And the cats because once the cats know you're there, you are obliged to pet them for at least four hours a day. But it was good, I got away from campus for a bit, downloaded the new Sims expansion pack and all the shows I had missed, went to the doctor and scored me some Vicoden. I didn't do any work which wasn't the best idea because I have a paper due Friday, a term paper due Monday, and two tests next week, but whatever. That's what this weekend will be for.

Speaking of papers I have to write, the big term paper is going to be on reproductive issues in Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Twilight. And by reproductive issues, I mean EVERY WOMAN HAS BABIES. BABIES EVERYWHERE. YOU KNOW WHO DOESN'T HAVE BABIES? ONLY MEN. I downloaded Eclipse/Breaking Dawn (and read it and was horrified at every single thing that happened) and my roommate is letting me borrow her copies of the Hunger Games, but does anyone have a source where I can get the epilogue of Harry Potter? I understand that that is a silly question because it is Harry Potter and this is the internet, but any help would still be appreciated. I'm probably going to troll Mugglenet and look for all the post-DH JKR interviews where she talks about the babies that everyone has. Feel free to tell me all your thoughts on babies/these series/YA lit in general that I can appropriate for this paper.

I managed to watch very little this weekend because...new Sims expansion pack where I was the dopest fairy ever...but I did manage to watch Arrow. David Nutter, I will never doubt your commitment to sparkle motion sibling incest. Ollie doesn't even have a sister in the comics and I already think he's gonna jump her bones before he jumps Dinah's. This new guy is not as pretty as Justin Hartley, but Katie is the prettiest princess ever and makes up for it. I look forwards to fishnets and angry sex.

There is undoubtedly other stuff I wanted to say, but I have to go to a meeting and I'm already behind on stuff for this so I can't be late too.

OH! Right, most exciting part of my day: woken up at 4:30 am by the damn fire alarm going off. It continued to go on and off for like an hour. Why did I want to live on campus again? Yeah, I don't know either.

I am super burnt out. I feel like the last three weeks has been nothing but papers and tests and presentations and I am just...done. I skipped my Women and Communication class on Friday because I hadn't done the journal entry even though the topic is super interesting women and sexuality (I would say my entire flist is basically about women and sexuality!). I was just so tired after taking a test and running around in the rain to get stuff done for Hall Council that I wanted to just veg out in front of the TV. It also didn't help that my roommates came home at 4:30 in the morning and either forgot their key or were too drunk to use it and pounded on the door until my other roommate let them in. I, personally, would have let them bang on the door until the RA heard them or I left for class at 1, whichever came first.

That said, even with my amazing powers of TV vegging, I have not seen Supernatural yet. I get dismayed whenever I think about trying to watch it on my tiny phone screen, so I'm thinking about trying the CW's video streaming on their website. I would just like to remind my flisters though that spoilers, even vague spoilers, outside of cuts is kind of a douchey thing to do and that it makes other people very upset and you should not do it. Please and thank you.

I'm considering maybe in a week or two trying my Women of the CW Commentfic Meme. I feel like before NaNo will probably get the most response? IDK, I have never run a commentfic meme before. I just need to figure out how to make banners steal already colored pics from tumblr and put words on them and where to advertise. I do want the new shows to air first so there can be all the Katie Cassidy as Dinah Lance prompts though. And also this commentfic is running now and you should go comment and write fic:

A Multi-Media, Multi-Fandom Food Service AU Fest

The only thing I've watched this week that's made a big impact on me (besides all the laughing I did after Glee) was Haven. Probably because I was crying by the six minute markCollapse )

I'm finally reading Breaking Dawn because I'm considering using it and the Hunger Games to compare/contrast the thoughts of reproductive rights and how fantastic babies are with The Handmaid's Tale for that paper. Or maybe just do Hunger Games/THT? IDK, I have to have that proposal in by Friday, so I really need to figure it out. I'm not very far in the book because it was literally making me sick to my stomach how much Bella did not want to get married. Does anyone know of any other recent novels (particularly in this vein of YA teenage girls focus) that end with babies or deal with reproductive rights in any way?

None of my roommates are home this weekend, which makes it the best weekend ever! I hope everyone else is having a weekend as good as mine.

~*Two Days Before Season 8 Friending Meme*~

So, I finally finished watching all the episodes of season 7 last night. Somehow, in a way that is completely unknown to me, I forgot how much these boys make me cry. I sobbed multiple times. It was messy. It was wonderful. I really did love the end of this season. I was even liking Castiel at points. Meg: can clearly make anything better. The only sad thing is that I have hall council every Wednesday and we do not get out before 9 so I will probably end up watching this entire season on my iPhone unless it's on Hulu/CW's website doesn't suck anymore.

I also watched Elementary, which I loved. Even though the first fifteen minutes or so was pretty well established in the trailers, I still found myself very engaged. Joan Watson is fabulous forever.

Haven this week broke me. I just cannot handle the kind of emotions that it inspires in me.

I feel so awkward on the internet now that all these episodes of Doctor Who have aired and I haven't seen any of them. I JUST DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED. I scroll through tumblr very slowly now, just waiting for something. Luckily I'm going home in two weeks so I can download it, but it's super super frustrating not to have any way to watch it here other than being home in the middle of a Saturday to catch the BBC livefeed.

The best part of this week was petting a random adorable dog. I am not sure I will last two weeks until I get to go home and see Sarina.

I had a really crap day yesterday but I don't really want to go into it because it still frustrates me. Today was much better (new pillowcases! Marketing test didn't suck!) but if you wanna leave me love, I will welcome it with open arms:

♥ Love Meme!! ♥

Make a thread and bask in adoration of the masses!
my thread is here

I think I want to make a Revolution comm. Because I looked and I could only find a graphics comm and I just don't think that's good enough. Does anyone want to run it with me and/or make me a banner? Still the only things I can make are icons, it's kind of sad. Bu this show deserves better I think.

That said, so far I think my favorite new show is Go On. I missed it yesterday because of all the stuff that was going on and it was the first thing I watched on Hulu this morning when I got home from class. I love that freaking show. If Community survives another year, I think they should be paired together to form an awesome block of awkward people.

Does Supernatural come back next week? Do I only have a week to finish watching all the episodes I'm behind on? WHAT DID I DO WITH MY SUMMER?

Officially changed my major to Communication with a concentration on Culture and Media today. Bonus excellent news, my school offers a Harry Potter class as an exit requirement. I will legit harm people who get in the way of me taking that class. I am taking it and it will be amazing.

Due to some of the awesome stuff that happened during my awesome day yesterday, I have to get a new laundry basket. For some reason, the one I want Amazon only sells in packs of six. I have no idea why you need to buy laundry baskets the same way you buy beer.

I'm going to go take a shower and officially not do anything but watch The Daily Show and Colbert for the rest of the night. \o/

This week has been about me having a ton of things to do and basically doing none of them. Everything is getting done on time, just not in a timely manner. My first Hall Council meeting was this week and yesterday was an all day Leadership Retreat. Plus, I've been feeling like super crap and after I finish my paper, I may ask my roommates to take me to the ER or some sort of clinic. IDK, we'll see.

What I did do was watch TV! Because I love TV!

Revolution was on Monday and I was so exhausted that day, but I loved it anyway. I think it's really good so far and obviously there's some plot holes, whatever, it's still great. And it's a Kripke show so I am shipping some really inappropriate things and I'm not even sorry. I'm super happy it's my only Monday at 10 show so I can just relax and be ready for it every week.

HAVEN CAME BACK. IT CAME BACK AND EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL EXCEPT DUKE'S HAIR. But that can be fixed and needs to be, like, now. But, ugh, so many feels for these characters. This was literally me watching the end of that episode and going through the tumblr tag:

It's been like a week and I'm still having Leverage feelings too. I actually purchased The Rundown Job on iTunes. I spent money on this. And I can't stop watching this fanvid that works as a trailer for the new Rundown show that is going to exist plz, TNT. I ALSO WROTE PORN. It's Parker/Hardison and Parker/Eliot and like 3,400 words and could use a beta if anyone is interested?

This is an interesting article about the use of archery in the Avengers. If you're even a little bit of an archery geek like me, it's worth a look.

In news that will probably surprise absolutely no one, I'm like 90% ready to change my major. Hello, grad school and ALL THE LOANS.

Super spoilery like OMGCollapse )

I am rewatching it rather than doing the crapload of reading I have due tomorrow, so I may edit this with new stuff. BUT COME TALK TO ME ABOUT HOW AMAZING THIS SHOW IS.

My first big paper for my Women and Communication class is just that, about women and communication. The official prompt:

How do women communicate? What do/can women teach us about communication? What does/can communication teach us about women?

I feel like there are a lot of pro-women people on my flist so I kind of wanted to get your perspective on this before I started the paper. Any personal anecdotes or thoughts that you want to share are more than welcome, as well as any like...professional style thoughts. IDK, I'd just like to hear what people think about this. Even if you don't identify as a female or feel like you have a decent female perspective, I'd still like to hear what you think.

Oh! We're also allowed to use literary references, so if anyone knows of any books/songs/poems that you think fit this topic, I would love to see them. Legit everyone on my flist knows more about poetry than me and I am not a big poetry person, but I would be super thankful if you used this opportunity to give me your best female-related poetry.

In return, if you would like, I will do this meme!

Comment and I'll...
1. Tell you why I friended you (if I can remember, heh)
2. Associate you with something. A fandom, a song, a color, a piece of fruit. Something.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Associate you with a character/pairing.
6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. (Or else I'll just ask a random question. I reserve that right.)
7. Tell you my favorite user pic(s) of yours.
8. Tell you that you must spread this disease in your LJ.

Leaving this post unlocked even with the super spammers in case any of you want to share with your flist so I can get ALL THE OPINIONS.

So, just when I think everything is set for me to get ready and move, my laptop keyboard decides to stop working. Three crucial keys are out of service: n, h, and y. Those are really important letters! My name has a y in it, for goodness sakes. It was working on and off yesterday and hasn't worked at all today. My laptop is almost two years old and out of warranty so it would be $230 to send to Toshiba to get fixed and who knows how long that would take. And even if I wanted to take it to like Office Depot to some place and get fixed, there's no way I'd have it back in time to leave Wednesday morning.

Obviously the fix is to get an external keyboard, but that is going to eliminate the whole lap part of laptop. I wasn't really planning on taking it to class with me because portability isn't really the key feature (17" screen, not very light, poor battery life overall). Now I'm considering maybe getting something like a netbook that I can bring to class to type notes on or use between classes while I'm waiting. A netbook is basically the same price as getting my laptop fixed and I can still have my laptop around and use it for things that need a lot of power, like games, graphics, editing videos, etc. I mean, with the laptop working for basically everything else, I'm not sure this is the right time to make an investment on a whole new computing long-term computing system. Of course, I thought this laptop would last me until I finished my Bachelors, not just my Associates.

All this said, does anyone have any suggestions for things to do/what to buy/where to buy it from? There's really just not enough info online about netbooks as there is about laptops, desktops, and tablets.

As the bright part of my day, we got everything to fit in the car and I waited until after I got home to cry after saying goodbye to my friends so...bonus overall. (Also I won Clue. Because I always win Clue.)

For leverageland, we had a challenge to make icon gifts for another member. So I learned how to make icons. And by learn, I mean the only thing I have ever done before is resize something. I had never even downloaded screencaps before, so this was definitely an experience. I'm really new at this, I still have to get up my resources post, so any advice/tutorials from anyone is really appreciated.

I made these for entwashian. I'm not sure how gift icons usually work and if they're shareable, but I guess in the unlikely event that there's anything that you want, go for it?

32 Leverage Icons
Sophie x 16
Maggie x 9 (Including 2 Maggie/Nate)
Eliot x 1
Chaos x 2
Sterling x 4
A lot of them are alternates because I'm new at this.

Under the cutCollapse )
I made this video for the 20 Fandoms challenge at owemelympics. It's been a while since I made a video, but I've always wanted to do a TV dance video. And after it took so long for Window Movie Maker to work, I'm just glad it got finished.

Video under the cutCollapse )
